About Thureon
What is a thureon? In ancient Rome, it was the most advanced protective technology available. For the Roman infantry, a thureon was a door-like shield, 2½ feet by 4 feet, which soldiers held in front of them to protect from their knees right up to their eyes. Its size also enabled thureons to serve as stretchers, able to carry injured soldiers off the battlefield.
Who are responsible for the modern Thureon? Darren Smith and Ross Vincent founded the company in 2005, establishing its headquarters in Auckland, New Zealand. Research and development was conducted in New Zealand and Australia with production components now sourced globally to meet stringent quality and delivery demands. They now head a dynamic and enthusiastic international team promoting Armarac technology to the global marketplace.
What propelled Armarac development?
The Armarac enclosure was created as an answer to the real-life operational requirements of a multinational project management company with two key needs:
- To deploy a complete temporary remote project office quickly and efficiently without onsite support, and
- To protect and secure the equipment against environmental damage and human interference to ensure reliable ongoing operation.
Discovering that there was nothing available in the market to satisfy even their most basic requirements, and capitalizing on their engineering, operations, and IT backgrounds, they developed the concept and design that would meet their own demanding specifications - and those of the industry in general. When the first Armarac unit was born, the problem was solved
Energized by the success of their early prototype, the team went to work to improve the design and optimize it for more efficient production to meet the growing demand for their innovative product.
